Description | Just a cursory glance at the past and present of foreign language teaching in universities is enough to discern a fundamental turning point, which is that the traditional three-dimensional educational paradigm, within which the teacher is regarded as the "facilitator" of content, "of knowledge" and the students are regarded as "recipients of knowledge" hardly meet the contemporary requirements for university graduates. This leads to a paradigm shift based on well-founded psychological, social, emotional, and pedagogical principles and which aims, among other things, to develop concrete soft skills in the classroom. This article focuses both on the embedding of innovative teaching approaches in foreign language teaching and on innovative forms, content, and challenges for (foreign language teacher) education that could contribute to the development of soft skills relevant to teaching practice. |
