Description | In an applied research project, we aim to bolster fully remote higher education with collaborative immersive virtual environments (CIVE). Distance learning faces challenges like high dropout rates, often due to student isolation. While some universities offer physical campuses, they don't resolve geographic isolation. Our solution leverages CIVE, allowing students from different locations to interact at agreed-upon times. Previous research demonstrates CIVE's positive impact on subject learning and social bond formation. We aim to develop a CIVE platform fostering social cohesion among distance students. Our prototype, "Studium - terra incognita," metaphorically guides students through their program. Additionally, we're designing maps for distance education institutions to share program info, building a supportive virtual community. |
