Description | Digital media is a major milestone in the context of contemporary art. The freedom of self-presentation brought about by new technologies and social networks helps to overcome the boundaries between mainstream society and a given subculture. The distance from society that these platforms provide can be a pivotal factor for free and truthful exploration, expression and self-definition. The theme of the Normcore exhibition is new interactions between artists, communicating vital information about themselves and others to the wider public. In doing so, they help themselves and the viewer find a way to accept others. The exhibition presents a selection of artists for whom playing with new forms of interaction with the viewer is an important element of creation and communication. The title of the exhibition thus ironically responds to the definition of normcore, an expression of defiance against new trends. Curator: Simon Kriz |
