Description | Red clover is a high quality fodder crop for high protein, water soluble carbohydrates (WSC), tannins, polyphenoloxidase (PPO), polyunsaturated fatty acids ( PUFA) content . As a disadvantage we consider lower persistency in contrast with both Medicago sativa L. and Trifolium repens L. It could be improved by hybridisation with Trifolium medium L., more persistent species, which creates rhizomes. To identify hybrids between T. pratense L. 4n (2n=4x=28) and T. medium L. (2n= from 6x to 10x= from 48 to 80) in F4 generation, we used flowcytometry as one of the possible methods (PA Partec, Germany). Variety Start 2n (2n=2x=14) was used as the reference plant, after it had been analysed for the number of chromosomes by classical cytology. 7342 plants were analysed altogether. It has been found that there are differences between individual interspecific hybrids with respect of genome size, that is the number of chromosomes, respectively. On the basis of the results obtained, the whole population was divided into 5 groups according to the number of chromosomes. According to the parents number of chromosomes, the plants of the 4th group with 35 to 57 chromosomes could be considered interspecific hybrids. |
