Description | Catalase is an endogenous antioxidant enzyme neutralizing hydrogen peroxide and is induced by oxidative challenge. A -262C/T polymorphism in the promoter region of the gene is a functional variant modulating activity of the enzyme. Ascertained association suggests that variability in the CAT gene may confer a modest genetic risk for the development of diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetics in Czech population. |
