Description As it results from several investigations (Bunc, 1996, Blahutková, 1998, Charvát, 2004, Hodaň, 2005), swimming represents the most popular activity among sports disciplines at children of all school grades. Some children, however, may experience anxious feelings only while imaging the contact with water and therefore, they avoid any swimming courses. Swimming is accompanied not only by feelings of joy, pureness and beauty of the water environment but also by a particular kind of fear under the above mentioned conditions that shall be overcome by volition. Success at overcoming these feelings of fear mostly supports the awareness of one s strength, courage, decisiveness and resourcefulness (Blahutková, Pacholík, 2006). The Halliwick Concept is one of the ways of overcoming these problems. It is a method focused at the handicapped. However, its usage is wider and it may be also used at healthy population with various problems (feelings of anxiosity, problems with contact with water, onerous movements in the water environment due to various reasons etc.).
