Description Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is an important imaging method increasingly used in neuroscience research, which gives us the opportunity to study functional integration (relations between activated brain areas). In this paper, we describe functional and effective connectivity. Basic principles of four different methods are presented (correlation analysis, independent component analysis, Granger causality and dynamic causal modeling) and possible differences are demonstrated using processing of real data.
