Description The goal of this paper is to define the partial, consequential stages of the reading of the map content and to apply them in practice. The starting-point is the detailed analysis of the map reading process coming out of stratified character of the cartographical information, which is specified by its communication levels. They are represented by four, genetically consequential roles: transmission, identification, interpretation and cognition.
