Description The aim of the presented work was to determine using Cone Beam CT imaging safe zones, places suitable for the application of temporary anchorage devices miniscrews. In 40 patients we measured mesiodistal distance between the roots of lateral teeth, and thickness of vestibular cortical bone of the alveolar process. Measurements were performed in all quadrants between the roots of canine and first premolar, between premolars, and between first premolar and first molar. Off the cementenamel junction (CEJ) of the teeth mentioned, 3 planes of measurement were set: in the distance of 5, 7 and 9 mm. The results suggest that vestibular cortical bone is thicker in the mandible, and its thickness increases toward the teeth apexes. The values measured are between 0.5 mm and 2.4 mm in the maxilla, and between 0.7 mm and 3.4 mm in the mandible. The highest mean values of mesiodistal dimensions between the roots exist in all planes in the maxilla always between first premolar and second premolar. The values oscillated between 0.6 mm and 4.9 mm in the maxilla, and between 0.7 mm and 5.7 mm in the mandible, with a large individual variability. Therefore, it was not possible to determine a definite safe place for miniscrews positioning. In case the results are not clear and the place is not clearly arranged, the Cone Beam CT may be the only accurate and simple way to identify a suitable place for the introduction of a miniscrew.
