| Description | A case report of the course of laryngeal papillomatosis in a five-year-old girl who was diagnosed with the disease at the age of two. During the course of the disease, it was necessary to repeatedly perform extirpation of papillomas and, recently, the intervals between the procedures have become increasingly shorter. We attempted to affect the course of the disease by interfering with the immune mechanisms against the disease-causing agent, the human papillomavirus (HPV). Following the detection of anti-HPV negative antibodies and the demonstration of HPV 11 in the bioptic material, we decided to vaccinate with the Gardasil vaccine. So far, the follow-up has shown a favourable change in the disease course; therefore, we would like to highlight an unusual treatment that has not been tested on a larger scale but has favourably affected the course of such a troublesome and often recurrent disease. |
