Description Swimming is one of the favourite motor activities in school physical education. Some children, however, may experience anxious feelings only while imaging the contact with water and therefore, they avoid any swimming courses. Swimming is accompanied not only by feelings of joy, pureness and beauty of the water environment but also by a particular kind of fear under the above mentioned conditions that shall be overcome by volition. Success at overcoming these feelings of fear mostly supports the awareness of ones strength, courage, decisiveness and resourcefulness (Blahutková, Pacholík, 2006). The Halliwick Method of teaching swimming is one of the ways of overcoming these problems. It is a method focused at the handicapped. However, its usage is wider and it may be also used at healthy population with various problems (feelings of anxiosity, problems with contact with water, onerous movements in the water environment due to various reasons…).
