Description The paper is introduced by a brief historical account taking us to the period preceding the current curricular reform ready to be implemented at the beginning of the 2007/08 academic year. Some of the problematic moments of its implementation are mentioned. The following part of the article focuses on the current state of field didactics which are expected to formulate and argumentatively defend educational content of school subjects. Related to this debate is also the latest development in teacher education. The key part of the article is an analysis of the concept of pedagogical content knowledge, the importance of this concept for field didactics and a reflection on the field of research on pedagogical content knowledge in foreign language didactics.
