Description | This chapter deals with adolescents’ self-reflection from several perspectives and introduces results from longitudinal study ELSPAC. In general, lower self-esteem is associated with problematic relationship with parents and with lasting emotional instability within the corresponding temperament trait. The stability of self-esteem (both high or low) across adolescence is associated with a corresponding pattern of stable personality traits. When there are any changes in self-esteem they are usually due to the quality and stability of the relationship with parents. |
