Stem cell derived retinal organoids can serve as excellent models to study eye development and diseases. However, laborious formation of the organoids and missing control of cellular microenvironment leads to high heterogeneity of produced organoids. Here we propose to overcome these issues by combination of human pluripotent stem cells with microfluidic system to optimize conditions and factors that drive morphogenesis of retinal tissue in niche controlled over time and space.
