What will you learn?

Do you want to deepen your knowledge of English? Do you want to pass it on in a meaningful way? Have you always wanted to teach English at primary or secondary school? Does being a teaching assistant interest you? Or would you like to teach at a language school? Then the best path for you is to start studying for a Bachelor's degree in our English Language for Education degree programme. At our department you will learn everything an English teacher needs to know: something about English itself, something about the literature, history and culture of English-speaking countries, but above all how to pass it on to future students in a modern, creative and effective way.

All the world's a classroom

We place great emphasis on the practical dimension of the studies, which is why we already include compulsory teaching practice in real schools in the Bachelor's degree. The Bachelor's degree programme will also prepare you for our follow-up Master's programme in Lower Secondary School English Language Teacher Training and will enable you to become a fully-fledged, professional and versatile English teacher – which is needed these days at all levels of schools. Study with us and you will not get lost in the globalized world!

The Department of English Language and Literature is known for its friendly environment, excellent relationships between educators and students, lively community life, and, last but not least, a range of non-educational activities such as the FAME choir or our popular intensive language and methodical course, which uses elements of experiential pedagogy. We greatly support study stays abroad, where students can gain insight and valuable experience at other universities (within Erasmus + and other programmes) - in Spain, the UK, Denmark, Sweden and elsewhere.

Are you not sure if this is the right programme for you? Are you trying to decide between several similar types of studies? Then you should know that we try to connect English with teaching in all subjects. We are a faculty of education - for our department, the preparation of excellent English teachers is our primary goal!

Are you not sure if this is the right programme for you? Are you trying to decide between several similar types of studies? Practical training

A future teacher or teacher assistant logically cannot be satisfied with just hearing about English teaching in lectures and seminars. In addition to the theory, the practical dimension is also essential in the preparation of future English teachers. That is why all of our students have to go through reflected teaching practice in primary schools under the guidance of English teachers. We cooperate with selected faculty schools in Brno and the surrounding area. During this teaching practice, an experienced English teacher lets you take a look at their own lessons and thus gives you a glimpse of what you will not find in textbooks.

In addition, we introduce you to a range of specific learning methods, principles, and tips in the lessons at the faculty - and we and the other students will always provide valuable feedback to you.

Last but not least, we believe that inspiration is also provided by ourselves, teachers at the Department of English Language and Literature, in our own lessons - we do everything we can to be a good model for you in what and how we teach.
