Description | This paper explores the meanings of idioms containing the components "frog" and "snake" in the context of three languages: German, Czech, and Japanese. While German and Czech share cultural similarities, Japanese belongs to a distinct cultural sphere. The degree of proximity or divergence between these languages is expected to influence the extent of differences observed. Initially, phraseological units featuring these components were extracted from phraseological dictionaries. Subsequently, the meanings conveyed by these components and the relationships they described were examined. The concluding remarks will shed light on the similarities and disparities found across the languages. |
