Description Key competences (KC) were introduced into Czech education without deeper theoretical grounding, resulting in insufficient empirical verification and, consequently, limited methodological support, often leading to a formalistic treatment of this concept. This study examines how KCs as a theoretical construct are reflected in the designed curriculum. Through a summative content analysis of around five hundred educational plans from primary schools, we investigate how KCs are conceptualized, elaborated, and integrated within the curriculum. Our analysis reveals diverse approaches to designing educational plan documents, allowing us to categorize and characterize these approaches. This contributes to understanding the varied explicit treatment of KCs within school educational programs.
