The increasing phenomenon of private alternative schools brings a new selectivity into
educational system. The project will allow for in-depth research on selected alternative schools
across the compulsory education spectrum from primary to lower secondary level. It
comprehensively takes up the narrative identities of participants in these schools (head
teachers, teachers, pupils, parents) and classroom discourse. It sets out the results within the
current debate on social justice in education. The project is beneficial in particular for: 1)
multiple case study research in alternative schools, which often lacks empirical evidence, 2) indepth analysis of narrative identities at these schools, 3) elaborating multiple case study and
narrative research methodology that allows an exploration not only of alternative schools. The
project will enrich the knowledge in this area with 2 studies in journals indexed in the WOS
database and 3 studies in journals indexed in SCOPUS.
