Associate Professor Naděžda Krsková receives the Bronze Medal of Masaryk University from the hands of the then Dean of the Faculty of Education Jiří Němec. Also present in the photo is her son, Associate Professor Martin Krsek, who works at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University.

Associate Professor Krsková was one of the key figures in the field of foreign language teaching and pedagogy. Her many years of work at the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University contributed significantly to the development of French language teaching and to the formation of standards of language education and the training of foreign language teachers. She began her academic education at the Faculty of Arts of Palacký University in Olomouc, where she graduated in 1952 with a degree in French language and music education. In 1962 she obtained another master's degree in German language at the then Faculty of Arts of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Brno, where she later continued her academic career and obtained the titles of PhDr. (1969), CSc. (1973) and Associate Professor (1981). Her scientific work focused mainly on French morphology and syntax, where she was considered a recognized authority.

From 1968 Naděžda Krsková worked at the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University, where she became an important figure in teaching Western languages. In her career, she experienced the decline of language teaching in the 1970s, including the destruction of all study materials and books, but after 1989, when the Department of Western Languages and Literatures was reestablished under her leadership, she was able to build on previous traditions and make a significant contribution to their development. In 1992, the department already had 46 teachers, which is why the departments of English, French and German language and literature became independent. They still form an important part of the faculty today. She is therefore considered to be the founder of the Department of French Language and Literature. She contributed to its development, but always in cooperation with other language departments, and was also involved in the management of the faculty; in the 1990s she was Vice-Dean for Science and Research. She was an exemplary teacher who cared about the professional and personal development of her students, and she educated several generations of primary and secondary school teachers who remember her expertise, but most importantly her human approach, with respect.

For her contribution to the development of language teaching and education, she was awarded the Bronze Medal of Masaryk University, which she received at a festive meeting of the academic community on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Education in 2016. This award was an expression of recognition not only for her scientific work, but also for her tireless care for the professional and personal development of students and her contribution to the development of the academic life of the University.

Even after her retirement in 2013, the associate professor remained closely associated with the university, participating in teaching and contributing to the development of the department's professional concept. Her tireless drive and enthusiasm for education were an inspiration to all who knew her and had the opportunity to work with her.

The last farewell to Associate Professor Nadezhda Krsková will take place on Friday 30 August 2024 at 12:30 pm in the ceremonial hall of the Brno Crematorium on Jihlavská Street. We remember her with gratitude and respect as an exceptional personality who left an indelible mark in the field of foreign language teaching and education at our faculty.

You can read more about her academic life in an interview from 2010.
